Rote Learning

Rote learning is a memorization technique based on repetition without full understanding. The main disadvantage of rote learning is that it is short lived and can be forgotten especially by young children. It is time consuming, boring and takes longer time to read, write and understand the language.

Rote Learning Biggest Hurdle to Education

At the fifth Kuruvila Jacob oration, Vimala Ramachandran, national fellow and Professor at National University for Education Planning and Administration, spoke on issues related to children’s education and stated that several graduates are not considered employable because of problems in the school education.” Many students are not able to read paragraphs and stories with comprehension. They fail to internalise and apply even basic maths and science concepts. Their language skills are poor” she said.
